What's really going on in my head.

Christmas 1965

Pain Management

I want only to remember you--
That smile upon your face
Not as you were that final night
When shadows stalked the space.

I want only to remember you--
Your songs held notes so high
Not rasping, low, behind the mask
As your last-call came nigh.

I want only to remember you--
With twinkle in the eyes
Not glazed and cold, and faded
As we kissed our sad goodbyes.

I want only to remember you--
A-jig at the hornpipe
Not paralysed and rigid
As your torso, nurse did wipe.

I want only to remember you--
Your laugh, so large and loud
Not missing every nuance--
Every humour said aloud.

I want only to remember you--
In speech, your voice so clear
These are the ways, I'll guide my grief--
How I will hold you dear.
