Lead actor, Nicholas Campbell who plays Dominic Da Vinci, Coroner, is a Canadian giant in the acting world. (I don't like to use that word, "legend" as it seems to be overdone and implies that the person is either deceased or on their way out.) Campbell is far from either.
Campbell's performance succeeds because he is an everyman. He has his own appetites and addictions that position him on the same edge as those lives he is called to investigate.
Dominic is often difficult to deal with. He is sometimes forgetful (he locks himself out of his car constantly) or thoughtless, but never is he insensitive to those he comes across in his work. He is as compassionate and considerate to the victims of crime as he is to the unfortunate whose lives have become entangled in it.
This is a brilliant show and the entire cast - Donnelly Rhodes, Kim Hawthorne, Sarah-Jane Redmond, Venus Terzo, Ian Tracey, Colin Cunningham, Emily Perkins, Alex Diakun etc., are excellent, but it is Nicholas Campbell who pulls it all together. He weaves through the story, interacting with cops, politicians and everyone on the street. His performance as Da Vinci makes watching a depiction of a beautiful city wracked with corruption, contraband and Canadian politics, an enjoyable experience.
Here's Nicholas in another one of his classic roles, as Francis Pottie, the father of Moonie, a frustrated, creative teenage girl, so desperate to get out of small-town Nova Scotia, that she fakes a pregnancy. (One of my all-time favourite films.)
I cannot recommend Da Vinci's Inquest highly enough. Dark and atmospheric, unforgiving and yet tinged with humour, it is an unforgettable drama.

It's all here! After much fiddling with export and import files, I'm pleased to announce that just about everything I've ever written, drawn, cooked, reviewed, joked about or shared is altogether in this one blog! Hurray! Now all you have to do, is read, check the LinkedIn suggestions at the bottom of each post and let me know what you find and how you like it. I love it when you talk to me! Kat
(Please note: some photos did not make the transition and a black box with an alarming exclamation mark in a triangle is what you may see. I'm working to remove or replace them.)
